The Story Behind Stone's Throw Cottage

Hi! We’re Marc and Michele McTeague. The proud owners of Stone’s Throw Cottage.  We painstakingly and lovingly brought this adorable circa 1930’s cottage back to life with you, our future guest, in mind. There’s nothing we’d love more than for you to make Stone’s Throw Cottage your home away from home like many of our past guests have.

Stone’s Throw Cottage began back in 1981 when Marc began vacationing in Indian River with his family as a small boy. He spent summers splashing in the many lakes and rivers in the area and the winters on the ski slopes or snowmobile trails.  As he got older, he played area golf courses such as Treetops, Hidden River, Boyne Highlands and of course the beautiful Indian River Golf Club These traditions would last into adulthood.

Fast forward to 2001. The year Marc and Michele brought their children to vacation in Indian River for the first time. That’s when the seed for owning a vacation property in Northern Michigan was planted. Each year, we’d walk along the charming streets downtown or boat up and down the river and all around the lake just dreaming of what it would be like owning a home in Indian River. Finally, in 2021 we were able to make that dream a reality when we happened to stumble across what we now affectionately call Stone’s Throw Cottage.

Stone’s Throw was a sad old gal inside when we first got her. Our plan was to do a quick rehab with neutral colors. That plan changed on day one of renovations when we discovered the original white pine floors under the 1990’s berber carpet. They weren’t in the best shape but they were beautiful nonetheless and we appreciated the history to which they alluded . That’s when the house started making her wishes known and she was telling us no to neutral, no to carpet and no to anything being level. LOL! She wanted personality and color. After a full interior revamp, adding a bathroom, a patio and finishing the sleeping cottage, Stone’s Throw has a completely different energy. She’s full of life and ready to be your home base in beautiful Northern Michigan.
